Masks have been used for hundreds of years in numerous cultures for ceremonial occasions. The masks created here vary in style from Native American, Asian, African to some that are simply just my designs developed from my imagination. Each mask is embellished with beads, feathers, stones, clay, raffia, excelsior, fur, etc. All are signed and numbered.

MK1 Feather Spirit Mask

Schlappen natural variegated rooster feathers accent the face of this unique mask. Wood burning, inlaid glass marbles, gold tacks, clay, along with inks, acrylic paint, and metallic leafing all were used to create this striking and unusual mask. The mask measurers 22” in diameter.

MK30 Lion's Mane

This mask measures 23" x 18" and is embellished with artprint brown ink, stippling, black ink, turquoise enamel paint, white acrylic paint, stamped clay (eye and mouth) and colored with inks and acrylics leather strips and Hawaiian nuts, plus two pods.

MK31 The Eyes of a Diva

This mask was created and designed to encompass a variety of techniques that I like to use such as stippling, creating texture, and decoupage. It was colored with inks and acrylic paints. Finally, it was embellished with numerous feathers and jacaranda pods. The diva measures 30" x 25".

MK30 The Warrior

Many different techniques were used to create this mask such as inlaid sand and tiny marbles, stippling, a touch of leather, creating texture, and stamped and painted clay. The mask is colored with inks, acrylic paint, and metallic inks. The wide variety of feathers enhance the masknotice the turquoise stone. The mask measures 30" x 15"

MK29

The mask was first woodburned and then colored with mango and artprint brown inks, and then turquoise oil paint was applied along with turquoise dots. Part of the eyes were stippled, painted with black ink and then brushed with acrylic turquoise paint. Finally, a variety of feathers were applied. It measures about 12" x 10"

MK28

Variegated brown feathers are captured half way around the mask.

It is embellished first by using the woodburning technique and then colored with brown ink, white acrylic paint, red and orange acrylic paints, and turquoise oil paint. Stamped and colored clay comprises the mouth. The mask measures approximately 11" x 8".

MK4 Wild Woman

She would be a unique addition to any decor, that is, if your colors are turquoise, green, blue, and russet red. This mask was first pyroengraved and then the black ink was applied. The colors used on "Wild Woman" are all done in metallic inks. The opening of her mouth is made of textured clay and then the metallic inks were applied. Her arrow nose is made of inlaid tiny turquoise marbles. Now, would you look at her hairdo (made of natural wood)? Looks like me many years back when I sported an "afro". To complete the "Wild Woman" I made just one gourd and beads earring, which, of course, is decorated to match her other facial accent colors. The mask measures 17" h x 13" w.

MK2 Gourd Flapper Mask

This gourd reminds me of a flapper lady out for a good time. Her mouth and eyes are cut out. The accents are pink and turquoise acrylic paint. The top of her head is adorned with turquoise and pink feathers. The mask is approximately 13" tall and is 8" in diameter.

MK27 Porcupine Chief

AWARD WINNER!

This oneofakind mask is really an eye catcher when hanging on your wall. The designs were carved and woodburned into the mask and then various inks were applied. Textured clay followed by acrylic paints were created for the eyeballs and mouth. The mask was then embellished with a variety of feathers, Hawaiian nuts, leather strips, a mushroom pod, and dyed chopsticks. He measures 22 ½” tall and 20” wide.

MK25 Wounded Warrior Mask

He is still on the warpath, injury and all! His patch is a black fur; his nose is made with turquoise tiny marbles; his mouth is made with textured clay; and his scar is red and textured. His headpiece is comprised of natural feathers. The mask is 11 inches tall and about 4 ½ inches wide.

MK26 Theater Mask

Black, white, and red acrylic paints make this mask a standout! The mask is adorned with black, white, and red feather. Notice the red square beads for the eyes. The mask measures 9 inches tall and 4 ½ inches wide.

MK5 The Dancer Mask

This mask came out totally different than what I had envisionedit was supposed to be an Indian woman. However, the gourd had decided she wanted to be "The Dancer." So.....she is quite unique and would be a lovely accent to your room. This mask was first pyroengraved and then colored with metallic inks and leafing. Her nose is made of tiny turquoise glass marbles which were inlaid. Her hair is colored with black ink. The final embellishments are the multicolored faceted acrylic jewels. She measures 20" tall and 9" wide.

MK3 Black Feathered Mask

This mask is outlined with black iridescent feathers. The background of the mask is colored with art print brown ink. The headband is made with inlaid turquoise tiny marbles. Designs were carved and woodburned into the mask.

This beautiful Corkscrew Spirit mask was created with a large array of colors and products including Heishe beads, clay, leafing and inks. Feathers and copper spirals create the "Corkscrew Spirit" and adorn this one of one of a kind 12" x 24" mask.

MK6 Copper Mask

Feathers and copper spirals surround this unusual mask. Embellishments on the mask itself include: inlaid metallic leafing (nose), inlaid sand (mouth), brass tacks (tear drops under eyes), rabbit fur around one eye and an accent on head, handmade clay pieces for eyeballs and which act as mountings for feathers and copper spirals.

MK21 Theater Goddess

The turquoise feathers are just the right accent for this theatrical lady! She would be a stunning focal point in your home. This mahoganycolored gourd mask comes alive with a turquoise inlaid headband, metallic leafing and many other wonderful things. Stamped clay is used in the insert of her mouth to bring together all the accent colors. She measures 15" in diameter.

MK22 Gourd Indian Mask

The outside of the gourd is dyed artprint brown. The cutout eyes are laced in leather. Sand is embedded for the mouth and brass tacks are used for the tear drops. Acrylic paint is used for the designs of the mask. It is adorned with feathers. It is approximately 14" tall and 9" in diameter.
