VB9 Salad Bowl
This ensemble is a combination
of three gourds—the bowl, its
stand, and salad tongs.
The inside of the salad bowl was
created with decoupage and
finished with a foodsafe salad
bowl finish. The outside
of the salad bowl was rubbed
with leather dye and accented
with acrylic paint and then
sealed with polyurethane.
It is a free form design.

VB10 Fruit & Vegetable Party Salad
Bowl
The inside of the
bowl was stained with a
nontoxic wood stain, sealed,
then finished with a foodsafe
salad bowl finish. The
outside of the salad bowl was
rubbed with leather dye.
The fruits and vegetables were
then pyroengraved into the gourd
and colored with dyes, inks,
stains, and acrylic paints.
The salad bowl is approximately
18” long x 15” tall x 14” wide x
15” deep; this will hold enough
salad to feed at least 20
people.

VB41 Madonna Bowl with Lid
The gourd was cut
and cleaned then the inside was
decoupaged with black handmade
paper. The focal point of this
gourd is a Madonna which is
framed with gold metallic
leafing. The entire background
on the outside of the gourd was
done with alcohol inks, which,
when dry was spritzed with
alcohol. The bowl was then
sealed with an acrylic clear
spray. It measures 8" wide by
11" tall.

Sandstone

Black and Silver Webbed Bowl
This gourd bowl was first
painted with black acrylic paint
followed by silver webbing and
then trimmed with gold leaf and
silver tiny glass marbles.
The inside of the bowl is black
with silver webbing. This is a
very light gourd.

a flower arrangement or potted
plant in it sitting next to the
accompanying ram’s horn (see

VB41 Tortilla Warmer
The lid of the tortilla warmer
is embellished with a handmade
clay red chili pepper. The
warmer was pyroengraved with
chili peppers and the colored
with inks. The body of the
warmer was stained with wood
stain and then spackled using a
heat tool. The inside of
the warmer was finished with
decoupage; it was made food safe
for tortillas. Included
with the warmer is a terra cotta
saucer which is to be heated in
the oven and then wrapped with a
towel (instructions are
enclosed). The tortillas
are then stacked in the warmer
and will keep warm. (This piece
could also be used to hold hot
rolls and buns.) The
measurements are approximately
12" in diameter x 10" tall.

The primary
focal point of this gourd
container is a design filled
with decoupage handmade papers.The “basket” was then
colored with inks in the same
colors as the decoupage insert.It measures 10”

VB43 Tortilla/Bun Warmer
AWARD WINNER!
The chili pepper
designs were pyroengraved (wood
burned) into the gourd and
colored with inks and acrylic
paint. The background was
created using two shades of
brown wood stain and sealer and
then a heat tool was used to
produce the spackled effect.
The chili pepper handle was
created in clay. The
inside of the tortilla/bun
warmer was finished with red
paper in decoupage.
Included with the warmer is a
clay plate which when first
soaked in water and then heated
in the oven at 275 degrees and
wrapped with a lightweight towel
sitting in the bottom is used to
keep the tortillas/buns warm.

VB1 Big Surf
This gourd container was cut
to resemble the ocean.
There were multiple blue dyes,
inks, and acrylic paints used
and then a pearl luster medium
was added for the white caps.
There are four sections of
inlaid tempered
glass depicting the sun
shimmering on the ocean.
These sections were then coated
with a dimensional and
highlighting medium. The inside
is painted in blue as well.
The approximate size of this
container is 12" wide x 11"
tall.

The bread basket is very much a
southwestern motif.
The inside is decoupaged in a
deep mauve and the outside is
adorned with a sea serpent and a
lizard which are painted in

The primary
focal point of this gourd
container is a multicolored
design with the outlying designs
in solid colores.The “plantert”
was then colored with inks.

VB26 Mahogany & Leather
Indian designs encompass this
container. First a cutout
was made into this gourd and
then the background of
mahogany leather dye. The
cutout holds a piece of leather
with a burned in design of a
tadpole that was then laced into
the opening and surrounded with
gold tacks. The lizard is made
of sand embedded into the gourd.
The kokopelli was painted in
gold foil. Around the
opening of this container is
braided leather finished with a
paw print shard gourd and wooden
beads. The accent colors
on this gourd are turquoise and
gold.

This is a replica of an Indian
